Castlecomer Union Pew News & Prayer Diary 30 July 2017: 7th after Trinity liturgical colour ??? Green

Posted on July 28, 2017 at 12:50 PM

Please remember to maintain Holy Silence both before and after the service to allow others to pray quietly before the Lord

+ Monday 31 ‘The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed …. the smallest of all the seeds, but when it has grown it ... becomes a tree.' Matthew 13.31,32

Reflection

We think of many things we work towards in life as being inevitable. Yet what is truly inevitable is that God's Will will be done; and his Kingdom will come.

+Tuesday 1 August

'Just as the weeds are collected and burned up with fire, so will it be at the end of the age.' Matthew 13. 40

Reflection

Christ warns us repeatedly in the Gospels that there will be a judgement at the end of the ages. It is a warning that no one can afford to ignore or take lightly.

+Wednesday 2

‘On finding one pearl of great value, he went and sold all that he had and bought it.' Matthew 13.46

Reflection:

There is nothing in this world valuable enough to risk losing eternal life for. Temptations seem to offer pleasure; but they come at the risk of everlasting misery.

+Thursday 3

'So it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come out and separate the evil from the righteous and throw them into the furnace of fire.' Matthew 13.49,50

Reflection

It is a great danger to think that only those you consider to be the wicked will be found wanting on Judgement Day. For we all sin again and again – and excuse our actions instead of repenting and asking God's forgiveness.

+Friday 4 (day of discipline and self-denial)

Jesus said to them, ‘Prophets are not without honour except in their own country and in their own house.' Matthew 13.57

Reflection

Preaching the Gospel can be hardest in our own communities and homes. Yet these are not only the ones we love most, they are the ones we are the most responsible for helping on the road to salvation.

+Saturday 5

For Herod had arrested John, bound him, and put him in prison on account of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife, because John had been telling him, ‘It is not lawful for you to have her.’ Matthew 14.3,4

Reflection:

Speaking God's truth can come at a cost; and sometimes at a great cost. But we must not be afraid to do so, even if it costs us our very lives.
